Previewing Idaho State's matchup with Eastern Washington

ISU held its weekly press conference to preview Eastern Washington. Find the videos from the presser at the bottom of this post.

Here's some of the Journal's coverage so far this week ...

The good and the bad: ISU vs Sac State — deciphering the pluses and minuses from the Bengals’ win

Ignore the look, this guy is for real — ‘A notch better than all of them who have ever played’
     - ISU coach Mike Kramer thinks Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams is the best in Big Sky history.

ISU notebook: The Bengals never want to slow down on offense

A couple of notes from that last article ...

Taison Manu leading in tackles
Junior safety Taison Manu leads Idaho State in tackles (39) and is second on the team with 3.5 tackles for loss.

Kramer has bemoaned for the last three years that his safeties have not played well enough for Idaho State’s defense to be a successful unit. With Manu, junior Cody Sorensen and senior SMU transfer Daniel Roundtree, though, the Bengals have started to have the kind of production in the back of their defense that Kramer demands.

“A lot of the ills in the past in this program, particularly at the offensive line and safety, are very much on their way to being solved and satisfied,” Kramer said.

Mangum to Williams trick play ISU quarterback Justin Arias threw a backward pass to Madison Mangum in the second quarter against Sacramento State. Mangum turned, rolled to his right and tossed a touchdown pass to KW Williams.

Williams says the Bengals had practiced the play a handful of times leading up to the game, and Mangum had never thrown the ball to him. But once he saw Sac State’s safety move to cover ISU teammate Broc Malcom, Williams knew he’d be wide open.
“Sometimes (those are) the hardest catches to make,” Williams said.

The sophomore wide receiver caught the 35-yard TD, his third of the season, and the Bengals took a 16-7 lead they never relinquished.
